DIY Wall Art- Total Cost $15.50!

Hey Everyone! Today's post is on wall art! As you guys know finding cool pieces to put on the wall anywhere in your home can get pretty pricey. Pricier than I would like to spend. In my kitchen\dining area I am wanting a farm house feel. I also love vintage things. At the beginning of the week I made a General Store sign to go above one of my windows. After completing this project I looked at the wall next to the window and felt that it really needed something. I wanted it to be neat but not too cheesy. I feel that doing anything country related it can go from chic and elegant to cheesy real fast. I then remembered one of Andrew's and my antique shopping trips. A date day for the two of us usually consists of food and visiting antique and thrift stores. Well I remembered one here in town where I had looked through all of their old magazine ads. They were all separated and wrapped in plastic. Most of them were car and cigarette ads but I remembered seeing some for food related items which of course would go well in a kitchen. So I bought three of them. Campbells Pea Soup, Sunkist, and Heinz Vinegar. The colors were great! They all measured right under 11x14 in size and cost me $3.50 each. I needed frames and again.. frames can get expensive! So I went to Dollar Tree and they had 11x14 frames. They are definitely not anything fancy but they were great for what I needed them for. The only problem was that they were black and I really wanted white so I spray painted them. I love the finished product so for $13.50 I have cool art for my wall!
In my dining/kitchen area I am in the process of setting up a coffee bar. I am really excited about this! I had bought this little plaque from Michaels on clearance for $2.00. I wanted something cute to go along with my mugs, canisters and such so I looked on Pinterest for some ideas. (Here was my inspiration)I free handed it so it is by no where near perfect but I am pretty happy with how it has turned out. Yes I spelled cappuccino wrong and had to squeeze that C in there somewhere! Be on the lookout for the Coffee Bar post. I can not wait to have it finished!

The start of my farm house dining area

I wanted to make some kind of sign to go above the window where I hung my teal colored shutters. I got those shutters from the Habitat for Humanity store for $10 each! I am really picky what signs say. I am usually not a fan of signs that have words actually unless they are like authentic signs for products and such. So I searched through pinterest for ideas and saw a general store sign. I liked it. It was simple and would go along with the country farm feel that we want. So I went out to the shed here. They left alot of stuff out there and some of it I have found to be quite useful. Anyhow I found this piece of wood which looked like an old leaf to a table. It was the perfect size. It took me awhile to decide on how I wanted the letters and decided that I wanted the letters to be the wood tone. I was thinking about making stencils for this by printing off big letters and tracing and cutting them out. I am horrible at stenciling and figured it would be best to free hand it. Its not perfect but I like it. Here is what it looks like in my dining room so far. The cabinet on the left will be transformed soon into my coffee bar. I will post about that once it is done!

Living Room Progress!

So here is what we have so far. We are still working on unpacking so there are still some things laying around. So we decided the rusty orange color had to go. It was not a horrible color it was just too much of it. We went with the Glidden Wood Smoke color but had it mixed as Behr paint.

I thought I would share some of my bargain finds that I used in the living room. The tables are the ones that I gave a face lift to. You can see the post for that HERE.

The rug was a great find at Dirt Cheap in Pensacola, FL.. I got it for $40! It is an 8x10. I LOVE it and love it more because I did not have to spend a fortune on it.

The throw pillows were $8 and I found them at Ross at the Eastern Shore Center in Malbis.

I got the set of curtains (2 panels) for $19.99 at TJMaxx!

I got the blue chair for an amazing price thanks to a yard sale trip with my friend. I got it for $10!!! We had to rearrange her Tahoe to make it fit and she was such a good sport. It has been my best find yet and it is in such great condition!

The sign on the fire place was free! We found it outside. It was the previous owners from when they were selling their chickens.

Everything else is just stuff that I have already owned. So far the living room decorating has not been anywhere near breaking the bank!

Welcome home- Our new "Farm House"

Well this is it! I have not had a chance to post about the new home yet! I call it our farm house because it sits on 4.7 acres and we plan on making it a mini farm. The house itself is a builder home so its basic but nice. I have this huge blank canvas that I get to make my own. I will be posting as I transform it into our rustic classy farm home!

This is the kitchen and dining area.
The office and the entrances into the kitchen and office.
The living area and the awesome fire place!
A couple of the bedrooms and part of the master bath. The master bathroom has a unique design and prohibits and full picture of the bathroom.
 The side yard!

Be looking out for future posts of projects and transformations! (Hint: The orange in the living room and the pink in the bedroom... was one of the first things to change.)
